Institute of Marine Biology
Admission to this Institute is open to qualified individuals with proper credentials. A student from foreign country who seeks admission must meet the same scholastic requirements for admission and candidacy as local students. In addition to meeting language requirements by the University, an applicant for master program must have a four-year baccalaureate degree from a college or university of recognized standing; an applicant for PhD program must submit the master thesis, draft or equivalent works if master thesis is not available. For application to the Institute, an applicant must submit (1) copy or copies of the above diploma documents; (2) two sealed reference letters; (3) study (research) plan in English; and (4) optional scores (within five years) on the test of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). Presently the requirement for language proficiency is as follows:

TOEFL iBT 61 or

TOEFL CBT 173 or

TOEFL paper-based 500 or


  A formal application is required of all persons seeking admission. Details in admission regulations and requirements and application form can be down loaded from Applicants are encouraged to confer with members of the graduate faculty in planning their work. Financial aids are available for competitive students. NSYSU financial aids include fellowship, teaching assistantship/research assistantship (TA/RA), and tuition waiver. The applicants may apply for all of them at the same time. The fellowship and tuition-waiver applications will be examined by an Ad Hoc committee and the TA/RA applications will be determined by the Institutes.
